Floral Spotlight: Anemones

source

Not to be mistaken with anenomes, anemones are a perennial herb of the buttercup family, and come in shades of red, blue, white, purple and pink, with jet black hearts.  Their blooming time is typically September - May, making these lovely flowers a perfect pick for winter weddings.

Anemones are a stunning flower that work perfectly as a single bloom or together in a bouquet. Here are some of my favorites:

Excuse the quality of this blackberry-cam picture I took a few weeks back, but I loved the Silver Brunia and Anemone combo!

I love how these anemones make this bouquet pop (oh and the billy buttons too!)

And look how this couple carried the anenome theme all the way through their invites and louboutins!

And how about some red anemones?

A Post I Forgot To Post {But Had to, Even Out of Season}

(c) Meghan Ryan

My good friend Meghan sent this to me back in December from a craft party she attended.  My excuse for the late post?  A computer switch from my old PC to my new MAC left some things behind.  But alas, I just found it again and in-season or not, I had to share!

DIY reindeer made of wine corks and twigs?  Yes please!!

Thanks Meghan :)

A Very Special Mason Jar Sunday!

Nothing warms my heart more than when a reader contacts me with kind words, or some lovely images to share.  And when you see what the lovely Kelli sent me (images (c) Keepin' It Kountry Photography) recently, your heart will warm right up as well :)

So, without further ado, please let me introduce you to the lovely Kelli, and her engagement shoot which was near and dear to my mason-jar-loving heart!

How adorable are these two?  Kelli is going to make one stunning bride!

Thank you Kelli for sending these, and thank you Lisa Klassen of Keepin' It Kountry Photography for sharing your amazing images with us (oh and check out Lisa's website!!)

This week went by so quickly - I can't believe it's Friday already!

In case you missed it, here's a recap of some of my favorite things this week!

The lovely Erin (Sparkle and Hay) was featured in Brides Connecticut magazine (images by Anna Sawin).  If you look closely, you'll also see our friends from Michael Maler  Photography featured in this article as well!

Our wedding video was released by Michael Maler Photography!

A new tab was added to capture all of the Real Weddings featured on the blog!

The lovely Naomi Goodman's inspiration board was chosen on Style Me Pretty for an Inspiration to Reality shoot!

One of my lovely brides booked her venue at the amazing Tenstone Napa Valley Estate - such an exciting step for her and we are getting to work on her design.  She has amazing style and I cannot wait to reveal a bit more as we continue along the way!

Another one of my lovely brides signed her contract with the elegant Marines Memorial Club in downtown San Francisco, and we are full swing in the lovely details now - so excited she chose a venue (out of the many that we had available!) and can't wait to provide her with some design ideas!
such a gorgeous space!

Anthropologie announced their bridal line, BHLDN, will be "unveiling" on Valentines Day!  Have you signed up yet?

Happy Friday everyone!!!!

Winter Bridal Coverups

I was recently talking to a friend who is planning her December 2011 nuptials, a lovely winter wedding, and we were talking about pretty bridal boleros to keep the chill away.  I did a post on this back in the fall but realized I should probably update it to reflect the winter season, too.  This one is for you :)

I did some scouring and below are some of my favorite cozy winter coverups!

Or what about this sparkly number?

I LOVE the shawl on the left!

I've said it once and I'll say it again - if I could do it over again, I would seriously consider a winter wedding.  There is so much you can do with the snowy elements to make things so cozy and warm (and any excuse to wear one of these lovely boleros or shrugs would work for me!)

Huntington Beach Rustic, Romantic, DIY Wedding: Jessica & Josh {Jesse Thomas Photography}

Prepare yourself for a HUGE dose of eye candy today.  Jessica and Josh's Huntington Beach wedding was a true labor of love, filled with all the lovely little details we have come to adore - and the most amazing part?  Almost everything in this gorgeous wedding was crafted by this loving couple and friends and family.

Annnd... we get to hear the story from the bride as she narrates their story via pictures :)

Succulents, billy buttons, feathers and mason jars: oh my!

All images are (c) Jesse Thomas Photography.

Meet Jessica.  Jessica is from Johannesburg, South Africa, and she moved to Southern California about 3 years ago with her family.  Besides being absolutely stunning, Jessica is also a student who runs a small coffee shop at her local church.

Meet Josh.  Josh is a very talented musician and quite the looker, too.  He and Jessica make one fine couple, don't they!

Such an adorable pair.

From the bride: Preparing for our wedding was the most exciting and fun adventure to start our lives together.  We wanted to create our day to incorporate us as a couple but represent our individual personalities as well.  We are both quite creative but yet so different in how we see things.  We started with our favorite colors and went from there.

Wanting to make it a budget-friendly wedding, and appreciating the value of keeping things as eco-friendly as possible, a lot of our decorations and designs were hand-made, from our table cloths to the favors.  We found this gorgeous venue in Orange County called Newlands Barn, a beautiful red barn with an old white house near it and a big outdoor area perfect to create what we wanted.

One of the most amazing tablescapes I've seen in a very long time.  Prepare yourselves for some beauty, friends!

In hopes of keeping things eco- & budget-friendly, we collected a lot of bottles and jars from friends which helped create our centerpieces as well as vases from around the house which were filled with simple, elegant, and local flowers from the LA Flower Mart, to bring in the green and mustard color.

From our hair accessories, to my shoe rosettes, to the flower arrangements (I could go on and on!) we used the help of our friends and family to add the personal touch to our day.  It was an incredible feeling walking down the aisle looking at all of our family and friends and knowing that mostly each one had a special part of that day and our lives into the future.

Our favors were hand-made metal and seed hearts from friends in South Africa for the ladies, and home-made brownies for the men.

Each table was named after our favorite songs and guests were able to find their names on old vintage windows.  Guests were able to leave something personal for us, a fun picture to add to our scrapbook in our own made photobooth with props to add to the fun and on our finger tree, where guests used paint provided and their fingerprint to create a leaf-effect on a hand-drawn tree to add to our home.

I would say that my favorite part of our day was when I walked down the aisle to “Rock me Baby” - by B.B. King to my handsome man. The look in his eyes and that smile on his face was so priceless, it just made me feel so incredible and so loved in just those few steps up to him. He not knowing what song I would walk down the aisle too on that day made it even more fun and exciting, I think if it was not for my dad I probably would have run down that aisle just so I can be by with my man. My second precious moment was when my husband sang to me, it was the first song he played and sang to me as a married couple, I did not want that moment to end, it was incredible.

I have to say that through only 3 months of planning I had the best time celebrating our lives being united together on that day. Everything was perfect and absolutely gorgeous, I look at our beautiful pictures and think wow did we actually do that? It is definitely not an easy task but certainly a rewarding one, one that is fun and exciting. I love the fact that mostly all our decorations are being used in our house today which creates a great personal touch to our home from that very special day. As a couple we wanted to create an intimate day, filled with our closest family and friends enjoying it with us. I loved being able to make mostly everything and create the designs and ideas that we had come to life, from the simple details to the more personal ones. I will definitely remember everything about that day.

I would definitely encourage brides to create exactly what they want on that day, there is nothing more special than creating and adding personal details and touches to your wedding day. A lot of my time was spent looking for great ideas from magazines and the internet and then incorporating our colors and personal touches to that idea. Finding second hand items that worked with our design and making a lot of the details could add so much to your special day like it did for our day.
~Jessica Fowler, the lovely bride

Thank you Jesse for sharing these lovely images and Jessica for telling your story for all of us to enjoy :) Blessings to you and your husband in your new life together!
